About this Assignment:
Students researched three buildings in the Sarasota area that represent distinct architectural movements: Modern, Postmodern, and Mediterranean Revival. They then designed one pattern for each, with the following criteria: Each pattern should reflect the formal sensibilities of the style, the fundamental region should be hard to detect, and there should be a seamless relationship between part and whole. They then designed a set of three posters, each focusing on one of the architectural styles but functioning as a series. Finally, we extended this project into motion by animating each pattern as a seamless loop.
This project builds on an assignment I did at RISD in Ernesto Aparicio’s class as a graduate student.
