Design III: Process, Form & Communication

This is the first exercise in Design III, and acts as a warm-up for the course. Students are asked to rapidly construct the letters of their first name from paper, and then experiment with lighting and documenting them. We evaluated these by looking for: Is light and shadow, a sense of sculptural form, legibility, consistency between letterforms, maximum variability between studies, and whether they have taken advantage of the material or “paperness”.
